Perhaps because I was a "band geek" in high school, I really like this video of the Notre Dame Marching Band. The video, which I found on Open Culture, shows that marching bands do more than just play John Philip Sousa tunes.

If you're trying to recruit students for your high school marching band, this video might be helpful in showing students that marching bands can be "cool."

Richard,
From one "Band Geek" to another I want to say thanks for posting that video!
Heard your Seedlings interview (finally) and wanted to say congrats on all you have accomplished. Still reading your feed when I can keep up!

I absolutely loved this video! Although I was in just band (not marching band) when I was in school, there was that stigma of being a "band geek", though I didn't care because I loved band. I thought it was such an inspirational video for students - whether in band or not - to see how a project can make such a big impact and impression. But it certainly does make marching band really cool! One of my colleagues who is in an online class I am taking will really appreciate this video as he is a band teacher (if he hasn't seen it already - Ryan?) Thanks for sharing it. I also had never heard of Vimeo, so I have also learned about a new source for video!

I too was a "band geek", although I don't remember being called one in high school. Loved the video, Richard! Thanks for sharing!
When I was in the high school marching band, the word "Geek" hadn't been invented. In those days, like now, the band director needs to have creative vision and flair.
This video displayed something special. The students were involved in something special and they knew it. This something special bubbled up, bursted at the seams, exploded in viewers' smiles.
You can tell that producing this video was great fun for everyone, what learning is supposed to be needs to be, and can be
Richard,
THANK YOU for posting that video! Yes, I too was a "band geek"- both in high school and college. Some of the best days of my adolescent life, I have to admit! It's exciting to see the new directions in which some bands are headed! Wish WE could have done some cool stuff like this! Thanks again!
