Schoology - LMS Meets Social Networking

I wrote a post on this service early last fall, at that time it was still in development. The service now appears to offer more than it did then.

Schoology is a learning management system designed to look and act like a social network. Schoology allows teachers to perform routine tasks like recording attendance and grades. Schoology also provides a platform for giving tests and other assignments online. The social networking aspect of Schoology lies in the interface for posting messages to a large community (whole school), to a smaller community (an individual class), or to individual students. The Schoology interface will look very familiar to anyone that has used Facebook. Watch the video below to learn more.

Applications for Education
My school uses a very expensive LMS, but it's not an intuitive system for students or most staff to navigate. If the same applies to your school's LMS and you're looking for an intuitive alternative, Schoology might be what you're looking for.

We used schoology in a masters course that we had. Much like blackboard meets Facebook :) It has alot of potential.

I am a teacher and working with google tools for educating and teaching for a long time specially as a LMS.

It is important for me to use a LMS that is NOT a social networking because i believe that student should have the right to choose and separate their learning and their personal life - my opinion.

Here’s a link to presentation which explain in generally my LMS:

Anyway, schoology sounds interesting.

thanks for the post.

I used Haiku LMS (http://www.haikulearning.com/)for an online course I developed and loved it. It had the capacity for group work and communication that worked quite well. I'd highly recommend it as well, though I'll have to check out Schoology also.

We agree that there should be a separation between your personal life and your academic life.

Schoology provides a completely separate outlet from non-academic networks such as Facebook and Twitter, for individuals to communicate and share academic information.

That said, we are always open to hearing new ideas and opinions and will do our best to address them.
