My wife is a teacher and we started a business to help teachers buy and sell eduction supplies from each other. It&#39;s basically a classified ad system for teachers. We don&#39;t really have a budget for advertising so we want to reach teachers and Twitter seems to be a good way but it&#39;s been hard to understand how to reach teachers until I read your info. There is a point at which it is very difficult to keep up with all of the people in your Twitter network. For me that number was 1000. But what I realized at that point was that I was still reading just as many good things as when I followed only 300. However, there is more "chatter" mixed in. But out of that "chatter" comes more good reading. <br /><br />I think of following 1000's as being a fly on the wall at a very large cocktail party. If there is only a dozen people, the listening can get boring after a while. If there are hundreds, there will be little groups that form and you can listen to the conversations in all of those groups. At the end of the night, I'm probably more likely to have heard more good conversation from the party of 100's than I was at the party of only a dozen. <br /><br />One of the things that helps me follow and keep the Twitter conversations straight is to use the groups function on TweetDeck.
