Visual Representation of Bloom's for the 21st Century

Mike Fisher, an instructional coach and education consultant, has created an interesting wiki called Visual Blooms. Visual Blooms inserts web resources into the hierarchical categories of Bloom's Taxonomy. Web resources are placed into the categories of remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. For example, Delicious is placed in the remembering category while VoiceThread is placed in the creating category.

Thanks to Beth Still for sharing the link to Visual Blooms on Twitter.

Applications for Education
Visual Blooms could be an excellent resource for teachers who are looking for web resources that can be used to address the needs of Bloom's Taxonomy.

Drain the Ocean - Study the Ocean's Topography

Drain the Ocean is a series that is currently airing on the National Geographic Channel. The companion website has some excellent resources for science teachers. On the Drain the Ocean website you will find videos, interactive maps, photos, and fact sheets about the Ocean's floor. On this website you will also find links to National Geographic's Google Earth files documenting the world's oceans.

The TED Blog team is on vacation this week so they're rerunning some of their "classics" from their archives. Today, they posted a video of Jimmy Wales talking about Wikipedia. Zoho Notebook for Web Research Organization

Zoho offers a suite of collaborative tools that in many ways are similar to the Google Docs suite. When Google announced last winter that they were no longer going to offer Google Notebook to new users, many teachers went scrambling looking for a replacement. Zoho Notebook is the replacement that some teachers chose. Zoho Notebook allows you to save links, add notes about those links, and just simply write notes. Today, Zoho announced that you now have the option to use a search tab rather than just scroll through your notes to find something. For people who save a lot of links and notes this should be an excellent option.

Applications for Education
Zoho Notebook is an excellent tool to introduce to your students at the beginning of the school year. Students can use Zoho Notebook to keep track of the web resources that they find while researching a topic. One of the selling points of Zoho Notebook over similar services is that your students can log-in using a Zoho ID, Google ID, or Yahoo ID.
