SMART Notebook Resources from Scholastic

In my previous post I highlighted the free resources available through the MimioConnect community. If you're a SMARTBoard user you may be interested in visiting Scholastic's collection of SMART Notebook resources. The collection is arranged according to subject area. The collection isn't terribly large, but it could be a good source of ideas for developing your own lessons. For a more extensive collection of SMART Notebook resources head over to the SMART Exchange.

Find Mimio Lesson Resources On MimioConnect

MimioConnect is a community site for teachers that use Mimio interactive whiteboards in their classrooms. In the MimioConnect community you can find, share, and download lesson resources to use on your Mimio interactive whiteboard. In the MimioConnect community you can search for materials according to grade level and or content area.

In addition to searching for and sharing lesson resources, you can use the MimioConnect community to participate in discussion forums with other Mimio users.

Download The Chronicles of Narnia as Free Audiobooks

I shared this yesterday on the Free Technology for Teachers Facebook page, but I know that not everyone who reads this blog is on Facebook so I'm sharing here too.

Through Open Culture I learned that Harper Collins has allowed Ancient Faith Radio to publish free audio recordings of Chrissi Hart reading the stories of The Chronicles of Narnia. You can listen to the recordings online or download them to your computer. Get started by listening to the first two chapters of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Applications for Education
If you use The Chronicles of Narnia in your classroom and are in need of quality audio recordings to support your students' reading, bookmark these recordings from Ancient Faith Radio.

We Do Listen - Animated Online Stories and Lessons for Children

The We Do Listen Foundation offers free animated stories, games, and lessons for children. The books and their corresponding lessons are designed to help young children learn about things like how to be a good listener, what to do about bullies, and good sportsmanship. All of the books feature the character Howard B. Wigglebottom.

The We Do Listen Foundation's games are a mix of matching activities, spelling games, and pattern recognition games.

Children can create their own Howard B. Wigglebottom stories on the We Do Listen Foundation's website. The foundation provides online tools and templates for writing and coloring their stories. You will also find templates that you can print out and have students color offline too.

Applications for Education
Reading or watching the Howard B. Wigglebottom stories could be a fun way for students to learn about proper school behavior. Creating their own stories could be a good way for students to express what they think are proper social interactions in school.
