Cram - Create, Study, and Share Online Flashcards

Cram is a free online flashcard service that used to be known as Flashcard DB and Flashcard Exchange. The latest version of the service keeps the same concept as earlier versions, just with a different name. On Cram you can search through a database of more than 50 million online flashcards. As you browse through the flashcards you can add them to sets that you create and store in your account.

If you cannot find the flashcards for you in the Cram database, Cram gives you tools to create your own flashcards. You can create flashcards on an individual basis or in a group by importing a CSV file.

Applications for Education
Cram could be a good resource for students who like to use flashcards as a means of memorizing definitions and facts

EduFire Flashcards - SAT Prep and More

EduFire is a tutoring service offering live video lessons. I didn't give EduFire much of a look in the past because it does charge students for the video lessons. I just took another look at EduFire and noticed that they do have a good selection of flashcards that students can access for free. There are many decks of flashcards designed for SAT and other standardized test preparation. Students can also access flashcards designed for developing and practicing foreign language comprehension.

Applications for Education
The EduFire flashcards, like most online flashcards, provide students with instant feedback by which they can gauge their knowledge of a subject. The SAT prep flashcards are worth sharing with students who are taking the SAT this spring.

Free Online Flashcards with Spaced Repetition

Flashcard DB is one of the most well-designed free flashcard programs that I've seen on the web. Flashcard DB, like most flashcard programs, allows you to browse existing sets of flashcards or create your own custom set of flashcards. What makes Flashcard DB different from its competitors is the study methods that can be used with the flashcards. Flashcard DB allows students to study using the Leitner System or the Graded Space Repetition Method.

The Leitner System works by flashing the flashcards that a student doesn't remember more frequently than the flashcards that a student does remember. The image below diagrams the system.

The Graded Space Repetition Method works in a similar manner to the Leitner System. The difference between the Graded Space Method and the Leitner Sytem is that instead of a simple right or wrong system, in the Graded Space Method the student grades how well they think they know each flashcard. This gives a human input element to the frequency with which each flashcard appears.

Flashcard DB is a free service and registration require only a username, password, and an optional email address. There are currently more than 16,500 sets of flashcards on Flashcard DB.

Applications for Education
Flashcard DB provides students with two excellent study methods. Students can create their own flashcards or you could create a set a flashcard for students to study.
