Download Your Videos - Knowmia and ScreenChomp Close In Three Days

Earlier this summer TechSmith announced that they were closing some of their free apps that teachers loved. That list includes the whiteboard video creation apps ScreenChomp and Knowmia Teach. On August 31st those apps will stop working. If you have created videos in either of those apps, you'll want to download them ASAP!

Watch this video to learn how to download your Knowmia Teach videos.

In related news, SnagIt for Chrome is also being discontinued by TechSmith. Fortunately, all of that content should already be automatically stored in your Google Drive account.

Earlier this month I published a list of alternatives to Knowmia, ScreenChomp, and SnagIt for Chrome.

Knowmia Was Acquired by TechSmith - What That Means for You

Over the last couple of years I have featured Knowmia in nearly a dozen blog posts. Knowmia is a website and an iPad app for creating, sharing, and viewing video lessons. Today, I received a notification from Knowmia that they have been acquired by TechSmith. According to the email that I received from Knowmia, you will continue to have free access to your online content and to Knowmia's free iPad and web-based tools. From here forward TechSmith will assume responsibility for the future of Knowmia and will handle support inquiries.

Applications for Education
Knowmia's Assignment Wizard and iPad app provide an excellent way to create and distribute flipped lessons. The free iPad app allows you to make your own instructional videos to use in the Assignment Wizard. If you don't have time to create your own videos to use in your lessons the Assignment Wizard will let you import videos from YouTube.

And if you're not using the flipped model, Knowmia can be a good place to find educational videos that your students can use to review or get "on demand" help when they cannot connect with you.

Knowmia Introduces Personalized URLs for Sharing Flipped Lessons With Your Students

Knowmia is a great website and an iPad app for creating, sharing, and viewing video lessons. Today, they introduced the option to choose your own Knowmia URL to share with your students. This will allow you to simply send your students to your URL to view the lessons that you have created for them.

To claim your Knowmia address, login to myKnowmia and click "edit/view teacher profile."

One of the better features of Knowmia is the assignment wizard. The Knowmia Assignment Wizard allows teachers to design assignments that their students have to complete after watching a video. Students can check their own Knowmia accounts to see the assignments that their teachers have distributed to them.

To aid teachers in assessing their students, Knowmia offers an automatic scoring option. Knowmia's automatic scoring function works for multiple choice questions and numeric questions. The automatic scoring is based on your answer key. Assignments are scored when students make a submission. Along with automatic scoring teachers have the option to see when a student initially opened an assignment and how many questions they've tried before submitting the assignment.

Knowmia Adds an Automatic Scoring Option to Flipped Lessons

Knowmia is a website and a free iPad app for creating, sharing, and viewing video lessons. Six months ago Knowmia introduced a feature that they call an Assignment Wizard. The Knowmia Assignment Wizard allows teachers to design assignments that their students have to complete after watching a video. Students can check their own Knowmia accounts to see the assignments that their teachers have distributed. This week Knowmia added an automatic scoring option that teachers can activate when they distribute flipped lessons to their students.

Knowmia's automatic scoring function works for multiple choice questions and numeric questions. The automatic scoring is based on your answer key. Assignments are scored when students make a submission. Along with automatic scoring teachers now have the option to see when a student initially opened an assignment and how many questions they've tried before submitting the assignment. Visit the Knowmia support blog for a complete run-down of the new assignment scoring options.

If you're using the flipped classroom model, Knowmia's new automatic scoring feature could save you time and help you form your next in-class lesson. Seeing the questions that are giving your students difficulty before they get to your classroom can help you determine which topics you should use at the start of your next lesson.

And if you're not using the flipped model, Knowmia can be a good place to find educational videos that your students can use to review or get "on demand" help when they cannot connect with you.
