42 Tasks - A Free Task Management Tool

42 Tasks is a new, free, online task management tool. The appeal of 42 Tasks is the simple user interface that it features. After you have registered for an account on 42 Tasks, adding tasks to your calendar is a very simple process. To add tasks just type them into the blank description line in your dashboard then select a date from the calendar. Tasks are automatically arranged in chronological order. You can also place tasks within task categories that you've created.

42 Tasks doesn't currently offer group task management, but according to their homepage that is a feature they're working on adding.

Applications for Education
There is no shortage of online task management tools on the web (here's seven others I like). But even the best task management tools are worthless if students don't use them. For that reason, I like to provide students with a number of options to try because the user interface of one task management tool might appeal to one student while not be appealing at all to another student.

My College Calendar Helps Students Organize Applications

My College Calendar is a website that I discovered when they started following me on Twitter. My College Calendar helps students organize their college applications. Students select the names of the colleges to which they are applying then My College Calendar generates a color-coded calendar with important due dates for the application procedure at each college. See the screen images below for an example of this.

Also on My College Calendar students will find advice regarding the logistics of going away to college and living on campus. My College Calendar provides advice about finding a part-time job, establishing a bank account, managing phone bills, planning travel, and other important non-academic tasks that are fundamental to going away to college.

Wipee List - A Simple To Do List Manager

Wipee List is a simple list making and to-do list management tool. I took Wipee List for a test drive this evening and found it to be one of the easiest to use websites of its kind. Here's how Wipee List functions: sign in, click add an item, then type your "to do" item. If an item has immediate priority you can drag it to a "quick reminders" sticky note. When you complete an item drag it to the trash bin. If you're working on a project with someone you can share your list with a specific url assigned to your list. (See my sample list here).

Applications for Education
Wipee List is a simple tool that could help students keep track of the assignments they need to complete. Wipee List doesn't have all of the "bell and whistles" of some other organization tools, but that might be a benefit in some situations. For a student that is easily distracted by too many options on website, Wipee List could be the organization tool he or she needs.

If Wipee List is too basic for you or your students, give Soshiku a look.

Wiggio - Group Planning and Scheduling

Wiggio is a new collaboration tool designed to make scheduling group meetings easier. Wiggio is also intended to be used as a resource for group planning of projects. I gave Wiggio a try last night and found it has a very clean and intuitive user interface. Some of the features of Wiggio include a group calendar, a mass messaging system that works with cell phones and email, and a group polling system. For groups that are working on projects together Wiggio offers a shared folder for files and links.

Applications for Education
Wiggio is a simple tool that academic clubs and sports teams may find useful. For younger groups where parents provide transportation, the group polling tool will be particularly useful for coordinating meeting times and or car pooling. Wiggio is also a great resource for high school and college students trying to coordinate meeting times and the completion of group project tasks.
