Scribblar Adds Support for PPT Whiteboarding

Scribblar, a collaborative whiteboarding tool (previously reviewed here), announced today that they now support the upload of PPT files. Now you can upload your PowerPoint slides then draw on them, highlight them, and have others do the same. This feature is in addition to all of the other useful features Scribblar offers including equation editing, Flickr uploads, and live chatting while collaboratively sketching.

Here's a demo of some of Scribblar's features. (Note, this demo doesn't include the recently added equation editing and PPT uploads).

Applications for Education
Scribblar could be a used by students to collaborate on the creation of mind maps. Students and teachers could also Scribblar to provide online tutoring by using the equation editor and audio chat features.

Collaborative Whiteboard Scribblar Adds Flickr

Scribblar, a collaborative whiteboard tool, has recently made two significant enhancements to its service. First, Scribblar now has an equation editor built into the toolbar. Second, Scribblar has added the option to add images from Flickr to your whiteboard screen. To add images simply click the "fr" button under "assets" to search for Creative Commons licensed images and add them to your whiteboard.

Here's a quick overview of Scribblar that I wrote last winter:
Using Scribblar, users can collaborate on the creation and editing of images and drawings. If you have an image you can upload it to your whiteboard where you and others can edit it or comment on it. The commenting can take place directly on the whiteboard or in one of two side bar chat options. Users can chat in text or in voice.

Applications for Education
Scribblar's new equation editor could enable users to give short mathematics tutorials online in real-time. The new Flickr search option could be useful for editing images and creating interesting slides for multimedia presentations.

Collaboratively Edit PDFs

Scribblar, a collaborative whiteboard platform that I've reviewed in the past, has recently announced support for PDFs. You can now upload PDFs to your Scribblar room. When you upload a PDF Scribblar will turn it into a editable image that you and your collaborators can alter. The free version of Scribblar will allow you to upload PDFs containing up to five pages.

Applications for Education
This announcement from Scribblar means that if you had older documents or drawings that you would like to have someone else alter you can do that. Scan a drawing, upload it Scribblar, and begin editing. This could be a fun way for art students to see how a change in color or a change of brush strokes alters a drawing or painting.

Scribblar - Simple, Effective, Creative Collaboration

Scribblar is a free, simple service designed for creative, real-time collaboration. Using Scribblar, users can collaborate on the creation and editing of images and drawings. If you have an image you can upload it to your whiteboard where you and others can edit it or comment on it. The commenting can take place directly on the whiteboard or in one of two side bar chat options. Users can chat in text or in voice.

You can create a Scribblar room without creating an account. However, if you choose to create an account you will get some additional free benefits like locking and unlocking rooms, naming of rooms, and privacy controls.

Applications for Education
Scribblar could be a great tool for students to use to comment on and peer critique art work and graphic designs. This would be useful when students are creating slides for a presentation or a creating other original designs. Scribblar could be a more effective collaboration tool than some its competitors because it does have two options for dialog, text chat and audio chat.

Creative Collaboration With Scribblar

Scribblar has been heavily covered in the blog-o-sphere over the last few days. I first read about it on Monday on Center Networks. There are good reasons why Scribblar has been so well received and talked about this week, the biggest reason being, it's a great collaboration tool.

Scribblar is designed to be used by multiple users at once. Using Scribblar users can collaborate, in real-time, on the creation and editing of images and drawings. If you have an image you can upload it to your whiteboard where you and others can edit it or comment on it. The commenting can take place directly on the whiteboard or in one of two side bar chat options. Users can chat in text or in voice. The screen shot below shows some of ways that Scribblar can be used.
