Yudu - Publish Your PDFs as Online Magazines

Since I released Twelve Essentials for Technology Integration last week, I've received about a dozen emails inquiring about how I published it. I published the guide using Yudu. Yudu is a free service that allows you to upload PDF, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files to create online magazines. The page turning effect and the zoom options are all built into the technology of Yudu and automatically activated. When your Yudu online magazine is created you can embed it into a blog, wiki, or website.

Applications for Education
Yudu makes it easy for you and your students to take the Word, PDF, and Powerpoint files and turn them into visually appealing online magazines. Yudu could be a good option for publishing visually appealing PTA newsletters or creating an online magazine about your classroom.

If you're in the habit of posting links to documents or lecture outlines, you may want to consider transferring them to Yudu online magazines and embedding them into your class blog. By posting an online magazine in your blog rather than a link to a file, your students may be more likely to view the material as it removes the requirement to download or open files.

Twelve Essentials for Technology Integration

My school is going to a 1:1 environment with netbooks next year. I'm one of the people that teachers will be coming to for help when the netbooks are distributed next. Therefore, I've been trying to compile a small list of essential resources that can be used across the curriculum. The product of that work is this guide titled Twelve Essentials for Techology Integration. This guide will serve as a getting start for teachers and the basis for some informal trainings that I'll be offering to staff. I gave a hint about this yesterday on Twitter when I asked "if you could choose just three web-based resources to use in your classroom, what would they be?"
The guide is embedded below.

RSS readers may need to click through to view the guide.
It is by no means comprehensive, but it is a good starting place for those teachers who need advice on taking their first steps toward integrating technology into their classrooms. I welcome any and all feedback. If you like it and know a teacher or teachers who would benefit from it, please feel free to print it and distribute it.

Free Technology For Teachers: YuduFreedom - Free and Greeen PDF Publishing

Yudu Freedom provides free hosting and web publishing of your PDF files. Yudu publishes your PDF files within minutes of uploading. Yudu does not require users to create an account, users simply have to submit their email address to receive the finished publication. Some of the other great features of Yudu are the options for quick and easy sharing of your publication. Yudu provides users with the HTML code to embed their publications into blogs or webpages. Users can also submit their publications to social bookmarking websites with one click. Finally, Yudu is carbon neutral company.

Applications for Education
Yudu is an easy and a fast way to publish and share work online. The advantages of Yudu over similar services are that Yudu is free and Yudu can be used anonymously. 21st century technology has made collage/ poster projects a thing of the past. Students can make visual depictions of the content they're learning with any number of free computer applications and share their content on the web. Sharing on the web, particularly anonymously with Yudu, gives students a genuine global audience for their work. Students can show off the work they're proud of to family and friends by simply sharing the link to their work on Yudu. The benefit of Yudu is that as long as they don't put personally identifying information on their work no one will know who made it except the people the student tells.

Here is an example of a PDF I have hosted on Yudu.

Here is a short video introduction to Yudu.
