Check Out the K12 Online Conference - Igniting Innovation

Earlier this week Dr. Wes Fryer kicked-off this year's K12 Online Conference with a great keynote video. The theme of this year's conference is igniting innovation. Wes put together a great video in which he talks about what motivates his innovation and how we can help students become innovators. Wes did a great job of including not only his perspective but also those of twelve other educators (I make a brief cameo in the video).

In his keynote post Wes included a call to contribute your voice to the conversation about sparking innovation. To contribute, create a 60 second video about one of the following questions then submit your video here.

  • What ignites your spark for teaching and learning inside and outside the classroom?
  • What sustains your spark for creativity and innovation?
  • What can be a spark of innovation to encourage teachers who are not early adapter / innovators in our schools?

The K12 Online Conference is an annual event in which presenters post video presentations that align to that year's theme. New videos are released at 8am Eastern Time every day from October 20th through the 31st. You can view the presentations on YouTube and iTunes. Find the schedule of presentations here.

Edmodo in 2nd Grade

Yesterday, I wrote a post of 15 things that teachers and students can do with Edmodo. There have been some great suggestions added to that list in the comments. Today, I was browsing through the K12 Online Conference videos when I found Edmodo: Collect, Collaborate, Create! created by Martha Lackey. In the presentation Martha explains and demonstrates how she's using Edmodo with her second grade students.

Great, Free PD - K12 Online Conference Starts Soon

Good professional development usually doesn't come cheaply let alone free, but that's exactly what the K12 Online Conference offers every year. The conference will kick-off next week with a pre-conference keynote by Dean Shareski. Then over the following two weeks forty more presentations from educators around the world will go live. The K12 Online Conference will cover four strands this year; a week in the classroom, leading the change, kicking it up a notch, and student voices.

To help you get the word out to teachers in your school about this great opportunity to learn from other educators, the K12 Online Conference offers the free poster you see below. Print it and post it in your school's teacher room or office.

The K12 Online Conference offers educators a great opportunity to learn from each other. All of the strands are valuable, but if you're looking for something that you might be able to implement right away, make sure you check out the "week in the classroom" strand.
