How to Create a Random Name and Group Picker

Flippity has gone through some changes over the last few months that were frustrating for users (and the developer). Fortunately, it seems that almost all of the kinks have been worked out and the current version of Flippity is in some ways easier to use than ever before. For example, the random name picker tool no longer requires you to use a spreadsheet.

Flippity's Random Name Picker lets you quickly create a random name picker that will also generate groups, teams, and seating plans at random. All you have to do is enter a list of your students' names and Flippity does the rest. Watch this video to see how the updated version of Flippity's Random Name Picker works.

Create Random Seating Assignments With Mega Seating Plan

On Sunday evening I shared the Mega Report Writer for streamlining the process of writing narrative reports. The same teacher who developed that tool also developed Mega Seating Plan. Mega Seating Plan is a free tool designed to help you create seating charts from a spreadsheet of names or from an imported Google Classroom roster.

To create a seating chart in Mega Seating Plan simply import a spreadsheet of names or import a Google Classroom roster, indicate where seats will be placed in your classroom, and then let Mega Seating Plan randomly assign students to seats. You can quickly alter the seating chart by dragging and dropping names on the chart.

Mega Seating Plan also has a random name selector tool built into it. To use that tool just pick a class list then click the center of your browser window to have a name randomly selected from the list.

Applications for Education
Mega Seating Plan could provide you with a quick way to shuffle the seating plans in your classroom. You might also use it to randomly create working groups in your classroom. To do that just arrange seats in groups then use the random assignment function to put students into working groups.

ClassCharts Helps You Formulate Seating Plans Based on Behavior Data

Disclosure: ClassCharts is an advertiser on FreeTech4Teachers.com

ClassCharts is an excellent tool for creating online seating charts, behavior charts, and behavior reports. One of the best features of ClassCharts is the option to create seating charts based on behavior data that you record for each class. When you are viewing a seating chart in your ClassCharts account you can select the option to rearrange students manually, randomly, or based on behavior patterns. Create a chart based on behavior patterns simply move the behavior score slider to "cluster similar" or "disperse similar." See the screenshot below for an illustration of this setting.

Class Charts Helps You Create Seating Plans Based on Behavior Reports

Class Charts, a free service for creating online seating charts and behavior charts and reports, recently added a fantastic new feature. The latest feature uses an Artificial Intelligence Engine which uses student behavior profiles to automatically create seating charts which are optimized to minimize negative behaviors and disruptions. Learn more about this feature in the video below.

If the AI seating chart option isn't for you, you can still create charts manually. Your charts can be arranged in a "seating" format that shows seat placement or you can use a list view. You can use students' real pictures in your charts or you can use one of the avatar images in your charts. Now you can flip the charts to display the students' perspective on a whiteboard. Class Charts allows for sharing of attendance and behavior data with parents and students. You can share your narrative comments too.

Try Class Charts for Online Attendance & Behavior Reporting

This month Class Charts became a financial supporter of Free Technology for Teachers. Here's what Class Charts is all about.

Class Charts is a free service designed by a teacher for teachers. The service is best described as one part seating chart and one part behavior chart. In Class Charts you can create and arrange as many seating charts as you like. You can create charts in a "seating" format that shows seat placement or you can use a list view. You can use students' real pictures in your charts or you can use one of the avatar images in your charts.

Class Charts seating charts double as behavior tracking charts. To document a student's attendance and behavior just select his name from the chart and tap the appropriate icon for attendance or behavior. You can record positive and negative behaviors. Students and parents can see their reports by accessing Class Charts through an invitation code that you send to them.

If you're an Edmodo user you can find Class Charts in the Edmodo app store. Class Charts has been one of the most popular apps since it was added to Edmodo a few months ago.
