Plus Magazine - Math Puzzles and More

Plus Magazine is a free online publication dedicated to introducing readers to practical applications of mathematics. Plus Magazine strives to reach that goal through the publication of mathematics-related news articles, podcasts, and mathematics puzzles designed around "real-life" scenarios.

Applications for Education
Plus Magazine's mathematics puzzles provide students with challenges of varying difficulty. Most of the puzzles include some type of real-world scenario as a framework for the challenge. The puzzles could make excellent extra credit problems at the end of a mathematics test.

DropTask - Visual Task Management for Individuals and Groups

DropTask is a task management service that has a neat user interface. To create a task in DropTask you drag a "task bubble" onto a blank canvas where you. Each task bubble can be dragged and dropped into a task group bubble. Each of your tasks can have a due date assigned to, files attached to it, and be given a priority status.

DropTask can be used individually or with a group. Group members can sign into DropTask to check on the status of a task and to assign new tasks to the group.

Learn more about DropTask in the video below.

Applications for Education
DropTask could be a great tool for students to use to organize group projects. Ask your students to add you to their DropTask groups so that you can see how they've divided tasks amongst themselves and see how they're progressing toward completing those tasks.

Map of Play - Find a Great Place for Kids to Play

KaBoom is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help build safe playgrounds in cities and towns all over the United States. One of the resources that they offer online is Map of Play. Map of Play helps visitors find playgrounds. To use the map just enter a location and you'll receive a list of playgrounds in that area. The places on the list are mapped using Google Maps. You can click on any of the placemarks to get directions to and more information about the playgrounds.

Applications for Education
If you're traveling with your children this summer and need to find a fun and free place to take them to play, Map of Play could be a handy resource for you.

Thanks to Kelly Wade Hines for sharing Map of Play on Facebook last week.

As you can see in the picture to the left, Max took his "job" of "guarding" our outdoor office very seriously. I hope wherever you are this weekend, the sun is shining and you're having fun too.
