Now You Can Insert Videos from Google Drive Into Google Slides

Today, Google announced that you can now insert videos from Google Drive into your Google Slides. This means that you are no longer limited to using videos that are hosted on YouTube. You can upload any video that you own into your Google Drive account then insert it into your Google Slides presentation. You can event specify the start and stop time for a video within your slides.

Applications for Education
For years one of the top complaints about Google Slides has been that you can only use videos from YouTube in your slides. That changed today. And since G Suite for Education offers students unlimited storage, there isn't a limit to the quantity or length of videos that students can add to their presentations.

Two Ways to Design and Print Valentine's Day Cards

One of the elementary school memories that most of us share is writing little Valentine's Day notes for all of our classmates. Back then we had sheets of cards that all looked the same. Today, students can design their own cards to print and sign,

Storyboard That offers templates for designing and printing Valentine's Day cards. To do this your students will first have to create a simple three-frame storyboard. Then they can print the story in a foldable card format. My video embedded below demonstrates this process with Christmas cards, but it works the same way for Valentine's Day cards.

Canva is a popular graphic design tool. Canva offers design templates for most card-giving holidays. That includes offering Valentine's Day card designs. In the video below I demonstrate how to use Canva to design cards.

How to Add Page Tabs to Blogger Headers

Blogger has a bunch of little features and options that are often overlooked by new users. One of those options is adding static page tabs to the header of your blog. Someone recently sent me an email about how this option works. In the video embedded below I demonstrate how to add page tabs to the header of Blogger blogs.

Applications for Education
If you're using Blogger for a classroom blog, adding page tabs to the header is a great way to make important, frequently used information easy for your students and their parents to find. In the past I've added page tabs for things like a course syllabus, a calendar of assignments, and a redirection to the school's library website.

Winning Words - Fun Word Games for Kids

Parts of this post originally appeared on one of my other blogs,

Winning Words is the developer of seven free word games for students to play on their iPads. All of the games use the same style as the classic Memory card game. For example, in Antonym Match students have to flip over one card that has a word written on one side. Then they have to flip over another card to try to find the antonym to the first word they saw. If a match isn’t found the cards flip over and the player has to start again.

Antonym Match can be played by up to four people at a time. You can choose a level of difficulty and the number of cards displayed in each game.

There are six similar games offered by Winning Words. Those games are Synonym Match, Homophone Match, Compound Word Match, Singular and Plural Match, Verb Match, and Double Letter Match. All of the Winning Words games can be found here.

Applications for Education
The Winnings Words games are free and do not require registration in order to play them. That makes these apps a nice option for a quick review activities in elementary school classrooms.
